Making fact, Making fiction
Making fact, Making fiction was commissioned by the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
The project investigates and responds to the making process employed in the creation of the early Blaschka glass models of invertebrates (made in the 1860’s) by instigating a making process which examines the relationship between the use of drawing as the source material for the production of a new object.
The product started with the commissioning of two artists - Kate Allen and Helena Kågebrand to make a series of new drawings, which were then translated into three dimensional glass models by glass makers Brian Jones and Norman Veitch. The final exhibition brought togther drawings by Allen and Kågebrand, a series of new glass objects and a short film that documents the making process of one of the glass objects.
