'Tank' uses the inherent properties of glass not just to give form, but to provide information. 'Tank' works as a simplified three-dimensional illustration of the real-life object, using material to reference the qualities of the real tank.
For example, the green fabric cube which forms the turret is enclosed by five sheets of window glass. The glass is transparent and therefore reveals the green of the cloth, but reflections captured on the surface form another layer of information, confusing the eye and temporarily hiding what lies beneath. The reflections function in a similar way to camouflage causing a momentary disappearance of the physical as the viewer moves around the space. The sheet glass brings with it implications of fragility. This information helps suggest a potential threat; the fact that damage or destruction of the tank could take place at any moment. |
