The Glass Archive document/proposal The Glass Archive document/proposal

The Glass Archive began as a document which was made in direct response to my ongoing research which examines perceptions and understanding of glass and the impact of this knowledge on the subsequent interpretation of art works made of glass. Click here to view a PDF of the document.

In 2006 The Glass Archive was exhibited as part of a multidisciplinary theatre project with Kindle Theatre, which was performed in the now derelict Chance Brothers glass factory in Smethwick, Birmingham. Click here to view the installation.

The Glass Archive began with a simple rule: to collect any novel that contains the word 'glass' in its title. The result of this proposition is a growing collection of currently 80 novels.

The Glass Archive aims to demonstrate the complex and numerous ways in which glass is thought of and understood, and the extent to which this material, its properties, and the assumptions made about it, are embedded in the psyche and within culture.
