Proposal drawing   An extract from 'The Good Life' essay
by Anna Pike

"Viewers are invited to invest physical effort to pump up the word, which when fully expanded, becomes a giant 'Yes'. The inflatable acts as a bank, retaining the contributions of previous visitors, as they collectively work to a shared goal.

The 'Yes' refers to the positive aspects of this group endeavour, to the moment of activity, and the resulting sense of achievement on completion. And yet this is undermined by an inherent pessimism, in its precarious nature as an inflatable, and the questionable reward offered.

This pessimism extends to the uneasy relationship between the work and its title; I am struck that whilst the piece revolves so much around a common labour and a common reward, its title employs the language of the stock market and of business, in which many contribute but few gain."
